Our precious mother, Leona Lavon (Corum) Morris, 93, of Solon, Iowa, formerly of Central City, Iowa, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Solon Care Center in Solon, Iowa. Family will greet friends and family from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Central City, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2022, at the United Church of Christ, located at 38 5th Street North in Central City. Burial will follow at Mt. Clark Cemetery in Central City.

Leona was born at home to Edward and Theresa (Ralston) Corum on August 30, 1929. She was a 1947 graduate of Marion High School and married LeRoy Charles Morris on May 23, 1947. They started their life together that day and farmed near Independence and then north of Delhi for about nine years before moving to a farm near Central City. Leona worked from the time she was a young teenager. After farming, she worked at Collins Radio and was very proud of working on the Apollo project. After retiring from Rockwell Collins after 23 years, she became a cook at several nursing homes in Cedar Rapids and Marion, before really retiring at the age of 87.

Leona was a wonderful mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. She was one of the most giving people you could meet and would do anything for anyone. Even if that meant giving you the last dime that she had. Leona enjoyed her weeklong “sister trips” and spending time with her family. She loved collecting cookbooks, of which she had hundreds. Leona loved children, animals and had a sassy wit. It is somewhat fitting that she passed away on Thanksgiving, as she was always full of gratitude, and she loved to cook. Leona will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Leona is survived by her six children, Annita Fleming (Wayne Parker), Linda (Jerry) Renfer, Kathy (Dean) Wood, Deb (Mike) Moyer, Penny (Rus) Porter, and Roy Morris; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley and Howard Corum; one sister, Nancy (Gary) Gruwell; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis Corum and Eleanor Miner; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, LeRoy Morris; siblings, Leslie, Ida Mae, Betty, Richard, and Veronica; and one son-in-law, Richard Fleming.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff at Solon Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for all of the love, care and support they gave Leona during her stay.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Leona’s memory may be directed to either the Solon Care Center or to St. Croix Hospice.
