Leon D. Jones, 66, of 3201 Elaine Avenue N.W., Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, October 1, 2006, in University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City, following a long illness. Services: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Jonathan Offt. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Betty?; two sons, Darrell Jones and Will (Lisa) Jones both of Cedar Rapids; two grandchildren, Eric and Amanda Jones; a brother-in-law, Harold Mitchell of Cedar Rapids; and a nephew, Jeff Mitchell of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Mitchell.
Leon was born April 3, 1940, in Williamsburg, Iowa, the son of William and Amanda (Snyder) Jones. He graduated from Jefferson High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. On November 24, 1973, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty? Barber in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Suburban Lumber for 32 years.
Leon loved the Green Bay Packers, NASCAR and was an avid gardener.
