Leola (Mickey) Michels Squires, 74, of Toddville, died Tuesday, August 2, 2005, at Greenwood Manor, Iowa City, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2005, at Greens Grove Community Church, 3909 Greens Grove Rd., Toddville, by the Rev. Jeffrey Ginn. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 4, 2005, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial: Squires-Oliphant Cemetery, rural Toddville.
Survivors include her children, Bob (Amy Butterfield) Squires of Toddville, Bruce (Terry Smith) Squires of Lisbon and Terri (Steve) Fritcher of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Dustan (Kim) Squires, Mandy Squires, Cari (Tom) Gruber, Trisha Murphy, Breanna (Luke Stanley) Squires, Tonya Murphy, Bryce Squires, Brooke (Nathan) Logue, Dustin Smith, Andrew, Melainie, Cody, Matthew and Justin Butterfield, and Melody Olson; two great-granddaughters, Taylor and Emily Gruber; a sister, Phylis (Don) Appleby of Baldwin, Iowa; and a brother, Ken (Gail) Michels of Parkville, Missouri.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy; two sisters, Wanda and Nancy; and two great-granddaughters.
Mickey was born December 8, 1930, the daughter of Henry and Lois Leggett Michels, in Anamosa, Iowa. She graduated in 1949 from Roosevelt High School, Cedar Rapids. On February 15, 1953, Mickey married Roy Squires in Cedar Rapids. He died October 27, 1993. A loving homemaker, she was a member of the Greens Grove Community Church, Greens Grove Sewing Circle and the Toddville American Legion Auxiliary #674.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Mickey.
