Leo Michael Skinner, 65, of Silver City, New Mexico, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at LTAC Hospital, El Paso, Texas. Memorial Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 18, 2008, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Del Bear. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. to service time on Friday at the funeral home.
Survivors are Margaret Strain, Larry and Darlene Strain, all of Port Lavaca, Texas, Jim and Joyce Strain of Rapids City, South Dakota, and Pat and Chuck Woods of New Braunfels, Texas; his stepdaughter, Leslie and John Sackfield of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and eight nieces and nephews.
Leo Michael Skinner was born on February 6, 1943, to Leo and Ramona Skinner at Rosebud, South Dakota. At the age of one, his uncle and aunt, Jack and Margaret Strain of Hot Springs, South Dakota, were appointed his guardian. He was raised as their own son along with their sons Larry, Jim and daughter, Pat Strain. Mike has one half-brother and four half-sisters.
He attended elementary and high school in Hot Springs, South Dakota, where he graduated in 1961 as class president. He enlisted in the United States Navy for two years after attending one year of college in South Dakota. Upon his discharge from the Navy, he attended and graduated from San Jose State University law school in California. Upon graduation, he went to work for Aegon Insurance Company in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where he retired in early 2000.
In June of 1989, Mike and Kimberley Sue Colescott were married in Cedar Rapids. They relocated to Silver City, New Mexico upon retirement.
