Leo Guy Hutchins, 78, of Marion, died Monday, June 7, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, surrounded by his loving family. Services: 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 11, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, Iowa, by Rev. Mark Woldruff. The family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m., Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the funeral home. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Twyla; 4 children , Cletis (Bill) Sloan of Alburnett, Corrine (Ron Meyer) Dvorsky of Marion, Curt (Sue) Hutchins of Marion, and Renee (Duane) Johnson of Anoka, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren, Eric, Heather, Adam, Kyle, Alex, Andy, Anna, JC, Tyler, Erika, and Travis; 8 great-grandchildren; and his brother, Harold (Joyce) Hutchins of Marion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Louie and Mable Hutchins; in-laws, Bob and Janie Hutton; a brother, Jim Hutchins; and a sister, Londa Smola.
Leo was born June 28, 1931, the son of Louie Leo and Mable A. (Henriksen) Hutchins, in Central City, Iowa. He graduated from Marion High School in 1949. Leo married Twyla M. Hutton on February 18, 1951, at First United Methodist Church in Marion. He owned and operated Leo Hutchins & Son Painting for over 30 years. Leo was a member of Prairie Chapel United Methodist Church and was active in Boy Scouts Troop 60 in Marion, where he led their God & Country program. He was a 50-year member of Trojan Masonic Lodge #548 AF & AM of Marion. Leo lived by the philosophy that you should never speak poorly about others.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Leo’s memory.
