Leland C. Fleming, 79, a resident of Linn Manor Care Center, Marion, died there Sunday, June 27, 2004, after a long illness. Services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, by the Rev. Michael Kleeberger. Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 - 8 p.m. today (Tuesday.) Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include a son, Roger Fleming and wife Jackie Kessenich of Amana; two daughters, Dawn Carter and husband Larre of Toddville and Cheri Leaman of Lake Mary, Florida; and seven grandchildren, Hollie Scott, Dawn Trent and husband Tom, Chad Fleming and wife Barb, Erin Carter, Chad Carter, Tiernan Fleming and Cassidy Fleming.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Ruth.
Leland was born May 24, 1925, the son of Barton and Dora Taylor Fleming in Prairieburg, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Ruth F. Crutchley on March 20, 1948. She died March 2, 2003. Leland was employed at Rockwell-Collins for over thirty years, farmed in Linn County and from 1955 to 1959, was a part-time officer with the Marion Police Department. He was a member of Squaw Creek Baptist Church.
Leland was an avid woodworker and especially enjoyed making toys for the grandchildren. He also had a special interest in trains and loved to fish.
A memorial fund, in memory of Leland, has been established for Squaw Creek Baptist Church, 1410 - 44th St., Marion, Iowa.
