Leland L. Christensen, 78, of 252 Mayden Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, died Friday, October 24, 2003, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a short illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2003, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ed Powers. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 27, 2003, at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marian Madaline; two sons, Daniel Christensen of Silver Springs, Maryland, and Randy (Bonnie) Christensen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two daughters, Peggy (Wayne) Becicka of Shueyville, Iowa, and Pamela (Larry) Langton of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, Jeff and Kyle Christensen, Terry (Chris) Anderson, Steve (Diana) Becicka and Amy Becicka, Jodi (Braden) Griffith, Marcus, Melanie and Angel Langton; five great-grandchildren, Zach Becicka, Ashley Sundstrom, Stephanie Matheny, Alyssa and Megan Anderson; a brother, Earl Christensen of Cedar Rapids; and two sisters, Millie Hillshiem of Waterloo and Rose Studt of Hiawatha.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Lonnie.

Leland was born October 23, 1925, the son of Daniel and Viola Reynolds Christensen, in Mason City, Iowa. He served with the United States Navy Medical Corps during World War II. On September 15, 1944, Leland was united in marriage to Marian Madaline King in Oakland, California. He worked for Dan Christensen Construction and then for the City of Cedar Rapids, retiring in 1990. Leland was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church, Marion Lodge #6 AF & AM, Cedar Rapids Consistory, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #727 and VFW Post #788. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
