Leland W.Burns, 78, of 3216 N. Alburnett Rd., died Monday, September 30, 2002, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a lingering illness. Services: 10:30 a.m.Thursday, October 3, 2002, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Stan Wierson. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military rites by American Legion Post No. 298 of Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Carol of Marion; his children, Patricia (Wayne) Webster of Walker, Richard W. (Judy) Burns of Alburnett, Jody (Steve) Bursovsky of Alburnett, Polly (David) Wood of Alburnett and Sarah (Paul) Buob of Chillicothe, Illinois; his brother, Robert of Florida; seventeen grandchildren, Tracy (Dan) Klendworth, Tami (Jeff) Munson, Michelle and Megan Webster, Carrie (Matt) Olmstead, Ryan, Kelly and Dana Burns, Shannon, Kim and Crystal Bursovsky, Amber, Nicole and Cortney Wood and Anthony, Addison and Alec Buob; and two great-grandchildren, Cody and Abby Klendworth.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Donna Rae Burns.

Leland was born September 20, 1924, the son of Clifford and Viola (Tudeen) Burns in Marion. He served with the US Navy as a bombardier during WWII. On April 9, 1948, he married Carol Buckner at the First United Methodist Church in Marion. Leland was a lifelong farmer in Linn County. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and of the Farm Bureau.

Leland was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had many friends and touched the lives of others in many different ways. His family and his farm were his world. He also enjoyed fishing and John Deere tractors. Leland also had a special place in his heart for Chevy?s and if you knew him he would make you very aware of his love for them.

A memorial fund has been established in memory of Leland.
