Lee Oliver Alitz, 75, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Family will greet friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to service at the funeral home. Burial: Cedar Memorial Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, at a later date.

Survivors include his wife, Lonnie Alitz of Cedar Rapids; children, Kelly Alitz of Oelwein, Iowa, Rick Alitz and Bob (Connie) Van Winkle all of Cedar Rapids; Iowa; siblings, Mary Barnts of Des Moines, Iowa, Lynn Alitz and Larry (Sharon) Alitz all of Oelwein, Iowa; four grandchildren, Josh, Jacob, Jordyn and Shelby; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents, Oliver H. and Blanche (Lee) Alitz; and a grandson, Joshua Robert Van Winkle.

Lee was born on September 21, 1939, in Oelwein, Iowa, son of Oliver Lee and Edna (Edwards) Altiz. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1957. Lee worked at Van Dyke Salvage yard in Cedar Rapids, Cedar Rapids Bus Company, Johnson Gas then for Swiss Valley Farms, during which time he was a Union Steward. He retired from Swiss Valley Farms after 30 years. Lee was a proud member of Teamsters Local Union 238. He was an avid fan of fast pitch softball. Lee loved his cats, George and Susan. He also loved watching his children and grandchildren at sporting and school events. Lee enjoyed fishing, watching sports and was an avid Hawkeye wrestling fan.
