Leander “Lee” B. Fangmann, 95, formerly of Dundee, Iowa, died Monday, February 9, 2009, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, Edgewood, Iowa, following a short illness.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 13, 2009 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester by Rev. John Flaherty. Family will greet friends from 3:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 12 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, Iowa where there will be a 4:00 p.m. Scripture Service. There will be a 10:00 a.m. Rosary Service at the church Friday, prior to services. Burial will be in the St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
Lee was born October 11, 1913 in New Vienna, the son of Clem and Magline (Schroeder) Fangmann. He attended school in New Vienna. While growing up, Lee helped on the family farm as well as working as a hired farm hand for area farmers. On January 16, 1943, Lee was united in marriage to Agatha “Aggie” Ricken at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Worthington. The couple settled in the Greeley area where Lee worked as a hired farm hand. They moved to Dundee where they farmed for 38 years, retiring in 1980. They moved to Lincolnwood Assisted Living in Edgewood in August 2006 and later to the Edgewood Convalescent Home.
Lee was a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. He enjoyed woodworking, helping his son at his ag shop in New Vienna, and helping area farmers.
Lee is survived by one son, David Lee (Vivian) Fangmann of New Vienna; one daughter, Del Rose Hentges-Haas of Earlville; three grandchildren, Mike Fangmann, Sherry (David) Maiers, and Lisa (Bryan) Kraus; four great-grandchildren, Matt, Travis, Tori, and Tosha; three step-grandchildren, Joe Kendra, and Chris Kraus; twin sisters, Irene Vorwald of New Vienna and Armella Schroeder of Dyersville.
Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Agatha “Aggie” Fangmann; his parents, Clem and Magline Fangmann; four sisters, Marie Schneider, Julia Schlichte, Regina Gaul, Clara Ruden; four brothers, Lawrence “Butch” Fangmann, Leonard “Huns” Fangmann, Elmer Fangmann, and Edwin “Bud” Fangmann; three siblings in infancy, Elizabeth, Anthony, and Anita Fangmann; and two sons-in-law, Mike Hentges and Dennis Haas.
