Lawrence “Larry” Paul Valencic, 83, of Marion, passed away Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha. Funeral Mass: 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, with a vigil service beginning at 5:00 p.m. The family will also greet friends one hour prior to the mass at the church on Friday. Private graveside service: Fernwood Cemetery, Gladstone, MI.
Survivors include his wife, Gladys Valencic; children, Catherine (Bill) Frajman of Donahue, IA, Carol (Mark Schmitke) Valencic of Libertyville, IL, Karen (Kevin) Gamble of Marion, and Paul (Corrie) Valencic of Appleton, WI; six grandchildren, Hannah and Emily Gamble, Gavin, Ava, and Severin Valencic, and John (Kelsi) Frajman; two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Claire Frajman; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Helen Valencic; brothers, Matt, Rudy, and Andy; and sisters, Mary, Emily, and Flossie.
Lawrence was born August 6, 1930, in Kipling, Michigan, the son of Andrew and Helen (Rudin) Valencic. He graduated from Gladstone High School, Gladstone, MI, and Milwaukee School of Engineering. He married Gladys Nelson on October 6, 1951, in Escanaba, MI. Lawrence was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Korean War. He worked as an Electronic Lab Technician for Rockwell Collins. Lawrence was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marion. He enjoyed woodworking, but being with his family was the most important thing to Lawrence.
