Lawrence “Larry” Peter Ruden, 83, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 14, 2016, at Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha, Iowa. Visitation: 4:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2016, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Vigil Service will start at 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2016, at St. Ludmila Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids. Service conducted by Fr. Kenneth J. Glaser. Family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Burial: St. John’s Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Larry is survived by his wife, Julene of Cedar Rapids; daughters, Virginia (George) Ackerson of Norwalk, Iowa, Veronica (Mike) Munday of Mt. Grove, Missouri; sons, Robert Ruden of Tacoma, Washington, Larry Dean (Peggi) Ruden of Hazelton, Iowa, John (Kim) Ruden of Oelwein, Iowa; daughter, Barbara Johnson of Norwood, Missouri; son, David (Karen) Ruden of Albuquerque, New Mexico; sisters, Rosemary Doyle of Manchester, Iowa, Madonna (Miles) Leonard of Manchester; mother-in-law, Doris Clanin of Corydon, Iowa, sisters-in-law, Marilyn Clanin of Cedar Rapids and Connie (Rick) Fry of Chariton, Iowa; twenty grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Agatha Ruden; sisters, Theresa Tegler, Agatha Duschen, Mariella Ruden, first wife, Marion Hawker; son, Mark Ruden; daughter, Jeanne Ruden; nephews, Michael Doyle, Richard Duschen, Ted Duschen and Frank Leonard.
Larry was born November 19, 1932, in Luxemburg, Iowa to Francis (Frank) and Agatha S. (Kleusner) Ruden. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955, and married Marion Hawker after his discharge. They raised a family of four sons and four daughters. They later divorced. Larry met Julene Clanin and they married at St. Ludmila Church in Cedar Rapids. They raised one son. Larry farmed and owned his own straight truck. He worked for Acme Transport, City Laundry, CRST, Schanno, Linn Transportation, Westside Transport and Hertz Car Rental before he retired. Larry was a member of St. Ludmila Catholic Church.
Larry was very proud of his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and especially the great-great-grandchildren. He was an animal lover and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeyes. Larry was also proud of his over-the-road trucking career. He drove approximately 2 million miles with only one accident.
