Lawrence Victor “Larry” Johnson, 84, of 130 26th Street Court in Marion, died Thursday, August 23, 2007, at Willow Gardens Care Center in Marion following a lengthy illness. Memorial Services: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 1, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion by Rev. Howard Chapman. The family will greet friends immediately following services at the church. Arrangements are by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Jeanne; their children, Laurie (Jonathan) Kigner of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Kim (Ken) Pins of Rockville, Maryland, Dale (Dave) Skorburg of Arlington, Washington, and Eric (Julie) Johnson of Marion; six grandchildren, Tony, Stacey, Maddie, Ross, Brenna, and Kaylie; his brother, Dick (Carol) Johnson of Bonita Springs, Florida; his brother, Lew Johnson of Lehigh Acres, Florida; and his sister, Diane Johnson of Monona, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Larry was born on October 19, 1922, in Gary, Indiana, to Lawrence W. and May E. (Jones) Johnson. He studied for one year at the University of Chicago and then transferred to Purdue University, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in mechanical engineering. Larry served with the US Army in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II. He married Jeanne Ann Cowhill on April 19, 1952, in Wilmette, Illinois. Larry worked as a mechanical engineer at Rockwell-Collins for 26 years, retiring in 1986.

Larry was a member of the Marion Kiwanis, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and First Presbyterian Church of Marion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Presbyterian Church in Marion or to a charity of the donor’s choice in Larry’s memory.
