Lawrence F. “Cass” Caslavka, 91, of Marion, passed away, Thursday, June 11, 2009, at home. Services: 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids

Survivors include his wife, Winnagene “Winnie” Caslavka; his children from his first marriage, Curt (Arlys) Caslavka of Middleton, Wisconsin, Craig (Reece) Caslavka of Waterloo, Iowa, and Sharon (Joe) Sichra of Waterloo, Iowa; a brother, Lynne Caslavka of North Liberty, Iowa; a sister, Virginia Hintz of Monticello, Iowa; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: his first wife, Charlotte; and a son, Graydon.

Born April 30, 1918, the son of Fred and Mary (Cherveny) Caslavka in Vining, Iowa, he graduated from Traer High School in 1937. Cass served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corp as a TSgt. A carpenter for 40 years, he served as a building inspector in Cedar Rapids for 13 years before retiring.
Cass was a member of the Local Carpenter 308 in Cedar Rapids, Hesperia Lodge #340 A.F. & A.M., American Legion and a life member of the Cedar Falls AMVETS Post #49. Cass also was a member of the Masonic Lodge and American Legion Post 142 in Traer.
A member of the Nazarene Church in Cedar Rapids, Cass loved to fish, hunt and tend to his garden. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
