She is survived in death by her husband and dear friend, Ed “The Waver”; three daughters, Sheley DiLando of Wapello, Kristina Butterfied of Cedar Rapids and Cecelia (Paul Naujoks) of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Chad DeMaria, Jessica Butterfield and Austin Naujoks; her great-grandchildren, Kelsey Wilson and Madison DeMaria; two brothers, Floyd (Beverly) of Cedar Rapids and Larry (Judy) of Shellsburg; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresia; her parents; a brother, Richard; Aunt Verl; and her beloved animals lost in the flood of 2008.
Bonnie was born to Vermillion Floyd Mumm and Helen Marie Mumm (Furman) in Parnell, Iowa, on October 18, 1937. She married Charles “Edward” Carlson in 1955 in Fort Knox, Kentucky, and then graduated from Burlington High School. Bonnie and Ed were divorced and then years later were remarried in February of 2006.
She and Ed had four daughters and, as a family, traveled the country seeking new adventures. Bonnie and Ed settled in Iowa in 1972 after the death of her mother. She began her career in Iowa as a legal secretary for the firm of Nazette, Marner & Good and then later worked for many years at the Law Office of Bill Olinger and Associates.
After retiring in 2000, Bonnie enjoyed working part-time at the Do It Best Hardware Store for Kelly and Mike Lauderdale. She loved to cook for everyone she knew, enjoyed crosswords, gardening and Wheel of Fortune. Bonnie was not a material person, but devoted her entire life to her family and friends.
She was so proud of the 4ft pond she dug in her backyard last year where she had two goldfish, Frick and Frack. She continued to be an avid lover of the outdoors where she would work meticulously in her yard. Every holiday she would decorate her house inside and out for all to enjoy.
We love and already miss you, Momma.
A luncheon will be served at Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, 2424 42nd Street NE (Corner of Wenig & 42nd Ave. ) at 3:30 p.m.
