LaVona E. Kirk, 98, formerly of Center Point, Iowa, died Sunday, March 23, 2003, at the Hiawatha Care Center, following a short illness. Services: 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, 2003, at Alice United Methodist Church, Center Point by Rev. Leo Andersen. Friends may call one hour prior to service at church. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point. Burial Alice Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter, Vivian Etzel and husband Harold of Alburnett; two grandchildren, Kerry Etzel of Coulter, Iowa and Dennis "Butch? Etzel and wife Edna of Alburnett; two great-grandchildren, Kimberly Etzel and Michael Etzel and wife Deb of Alburnett; and three great-great-grandchildren, Matthew, Taylor and Dean Etzel of Alburnett.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon, and her parents.

LaVona was born March 8, 1905, the daughter of Jacob and Emma (Feyerbend) LaLa, near Center Point, Iowa. She was a Center Point High School graduate and married Vernon Kirk on November 9, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He died on October 26, 1978. LaVona was a member of the Alice United Methodist Church and Alert Homemakers. She was a teacher and a farmwife.
