LaVina M. Goos, 82, formerly of Masonville, Iowa, died Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, after a short illness.
Services will be 1:30 pm, Tuesday July 8th, 2003, at the Silver Creek United Methodist Church, rural Masonville, Iowa with the Rev. Thelma Colorado Subramanian officiating. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, and for one hour before services on Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at the Silver Creek Cemetery, rural Masonville, Iowa.
LaVina was born September 21, 1920, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of William R. & Mary (Sulzner) Ammeter. After graduating from the Buck Creek School in 1936, LaVina attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She then taught country school in the Scotch Grove and Castle Grove areas. On July 19, 1941, LaVina married Wayne Wade. Wayne was killed September 13, 1943 in Sicily, while serving in World War II. Following Wayne?s death, LaVina moved back in with her parents and attended Paris Beauty Academy in Cedar Rapids. After receiving her license, LaVina worked at Ethlyn?s Beauty Salon in Manchester. On September 4, 1948, LaVina was united in marriage to Arthur L. Goos at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple farmed all their lives near Masonville. LaVina moved to the Edgewood Convalescent Home, Strawberry Point Lutheran Home and recently to the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester.
LaVina was a member of the Silver Creek United Methodist Church, rural Masonville, where she belonged to the Ladies Circle and taught Sunday School for over 30 years. LaVina also was a member of the Prairie Flower Club. She enjoyed growing her flowers and doing handwork.
LaVina will be fondly remembered by her four sons & their wives, Bryce & Carla Goos, Robert & Kendy Goos and Alvin & Mary Goos, all of Masonville; and Marshall & Linda Wade of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters and their husbands, Betty & Harold Wilson of Cedar Rapids, Naomi Cook of Eugene, Oregon, and Mary & Robert Hutchinson of Manchester; and a brother and his wife, Robert & Donna Ammeter of Monticello.
LaVina was preceded in death by her parents, William R. & Mary M. Ammeter and her two husbands, Wayne Wade and Arthur L. Goos, on March 2, 2002.
