LaVerne B. Neuhaus, 78, of Manchester, formerly of Earlville, Iowa, died Thursday morning, June 12, 2003, at St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness.
A Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 14, 2003, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Manchester, with Rev. Ralph Simington officiating. Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, where there will be a Scripture Service at 3:00 p.m. and the Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. The Farley American Legion Post #656 will meet at 7:00 p.m. for the service. Friends may also call from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning at the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph?s Catholic Cemetery in Earlville, Iowa.
LaVerne was born on October 15, 1924, in New Vienna, the son of Joe & Martha (Jacobsmeyer) Neuhaus. He attended the St. Francis Catholic School in Dyersville, Iowa, after finishing school, LaVerne worked as a hired farm hand. On January 29, 1951 he married Marie L. Kaiser at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earlville. LaVerne and Marie first settled in Dyersville, then in 1959, they moved to Earlville. In 1990 they came to reside in Manchester. Seven children were born to this union. LaVerne worked for All Steel in Dyersville, Caradco in Dubuque, Iowa and was also employed by Armstrong Lumber Yard, Dyersville.
LaVerne was a member of the St. Mary?s Catholic Church, Manchester, and a former member of the St. Joseph?s Parish in Earlville. He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles and watching television.
LaVerne is survived by his wife, Marie Neuhaus of Manchester; his children, Chuck (Mary) Neuhaus of Farley, Iowa, Margie (Randy) Collins of Des Moines, Iowa, Joyce Elaine Neuhaus of Manchester, Loras Neuhaus of Quasqueton, Iowa, Susie (Bill) Stock and Wanda (Joe) Bolsinger, all of Greeley, Iowa and Karen (Roy) Davis of Marengo, Iowa; twenty-three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters Inez (Clair) Fannon of Edgewood, Iowa, JoAnne (Dick) Anthony of Dubuque; two brothers; Al (Dorothy) Neuhaus and Don (Mary) Neuhaus, all of Dyersville.
LaVerne was preceded in death by his parents, Joe & Martha Neuhaus, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joe & Esther Kaiser; a granddaughter, Kristi Collins; four brothers-in-law, Al Kaiser & Kenneth Kaiser, Ted Anderson and Frank Rath; and one sister-in-law, Ruth Kaiser.
