LaVerne R. Molitor, 80, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, October 16, 2008, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 20, 2008, at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids by Father Gerald Condon. Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion where a parish vigil service will begin at 5:00 p.m. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2008, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery in Hanover.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene; his children, Luann Richmond of Cedar Rapids, Jody (Stu) Hohm of Springfield, Illinois, Cathy (Mark) Bordignon of Cedar Rapids, and John (Beth) Molitor of San Antonio, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Sheila McCarville of Iowa City; and nine grandchildren, Sarah Molitor, Ian Richmond, Skyler Molitor, Meritt and Alyson Stastny, Stuart and Spencer Hohm, and Jacob and Emmalyse Bordignon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Dan; and three brothers, LeRoy, Eldon, and Vernon.
LaVerne was born June 21, 1928, the son of Leonard and Margaret (Leis) Molitor, in Luana, Iowa. On July 11, 1971, he married Charlene Heath in Maquoketa. He worked at Wilson’s/Farmstead Foods in the Lasting Flavoring department for thirty years.
LaVerne enjoyed his vacation home in Harpers Ferry and fishing on the Mississippi. His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed.
