Laverne H. Knight, 72, a lifelong resident of Springville, died at home, surrounded by family on Friday, March 14, 2003. Services: 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2003, at Viola United Methodist Church by Rev. Clive Cook. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: Prairie Chapel Cemetery, rural Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Joy; two sons, Gary Knight of Springville and Rod Knight and wife Deb of Cedar Rapids; three daughters, Brenda Megonigle and husband Scott of Cedar Rapids, Eva Atwood and husband Jay of Waterloo and Kim Sindelar and husband Tom of Central City; a foster daughter still living at home; a sister, Frances Knight of California; a brother, Roy Knight and wife Wanda of Indianola; twenty-three grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Edith (Mills) Knight; and seven foster children.
Laverne was born June 28, 1930, and spent all his years in the Springville area. He married the joy of his life, Joy Butterfield, on December 8, 1956, in Carson City, Nevada. Laverne and his bride spent their years together surrounded by the things they cherished most - family, faith, farming, horses and countless foster children.
Laverne was a loving and compassionate husband, father, foster dad, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Laverne felt the world would be a better place if we all lived by I Corinthians 13.
