LaVern Schaul, 76, of Masonville, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2024, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home in Manchester. An additional visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the funeral home. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville with the Reverend Gabriel Anderson officiating. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Masonville.

LaVern was born on August 5, 1948, in Manchester, Iowa, the son of Victor and Pearl (Boffeli) Schaul. He attended the Dundee and Manchester Schools. LaVern married Valda Savago on February 15, 1969, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Masonville; four children were born to this union. He worked for John Deere for 30 years in Waterloo until his retirement. LaVern was a lifelong member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Masonville where he had participated in all of the sacraments. He was a proud member of the UAW Local 838 in Waterloo. LaVern enjoyed spending time outdoors mowing grass, trapshooting, taking rides on his Harley, John Deere Tractors and muscle cars. He also taught his children to ride motorcycles with training wheels at the age of 4. He loved watching his grandchildren at their sporting events. But most of all he loved spending time with his friends and family, he will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

LaVern is survived by his wife, Valda Schaul; children, Christina Jackson (Kathy Nicholes) of Johnston, Iowa, Lori Schaul of Waterloo, Craig (Kamra) Schaul of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Chad (Joanna) Schaul of Ryan; seven grandchildren, McKenzie and Jaylyn Jackson, Landon, Caiden, and Nolan Schaul, and Brady and Dylan Schaul; three brothers, Robert Schaul of Masonville, Lawrence “Larry” (Helen) Schaul of Dubuque, Iowa, Randy (Norine) Schaul of Manchester; his sister, Mary Jane (Gary) Lynch of Manchester and in-laws; JoAnn (Jim) Enos, Janice Rice (Mike Grace), and Nancy Savago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Pearl Schaul; twin brothers, John and Daniel Schaul; son-in-law, Kevin Jackson; mother and father-in-law, Lawrence and Eileen Savago; sister-in-law, Marge Schaul; brothers-in-law, Charles “Bub” Savago, Ronnie Savago; and nephew Jimmy Savago.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials in LaVern’s memory may be directed to his family and will be designated at a later date.
