LaVern J. Arensdorf, 71, of 1115 23rd St. SE, Cedar Rapids, died Monday, December 10, 2007, at St. Luke’s Hospital, following a long illness. Services: 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 14, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00. Burial: 2:00 p.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Maquoketa.
Survivors include a daughter, Sonya (Matt) Keyser of Evansville, Wisconsin; a son, Joseph (Chanai) Weaver of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; two grandchildren, Griffin and Collin Keyser; five brothers and sisters, Virginia (Fay) Templeton, Jim (Evelyn) Arensdorf, Clet (Cathy) Arensdorf, Clem (Janet) Arensdorf, and Shirley Dague; and his special friend and caretaker, Mary Burgess.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June; and a daughter, Dawn Weaver.
LaVern was born November 22, 1936, the son of Lawrence and Lucille (Krieschner) Arensdorf in Cottonville, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Air Force. On July 23, 1971, he married June Enabnit. She died February 8, 1998. He worked as a Mason Tender and was a member of Laborer Union Local 43 for over fifty years.
LaVern was an avid collector of many things, especially marbles and buttons. He enjoyed going to auctions and was a world class tinkerer.
