Laurine Joan (Gaffey) Sueppel, 82, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at The Views of Marion. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 2310 1st Ave NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, with an hour of visitation prior. In accordance with her wishes, the casket will be closed at all times. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.

Laurine was born on October 14, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Laura (Fahnholz) Gaffey. She graduated from Parnell High School. On April 23, 1960, Laurine was united in marriage to Robert Sueppel at St. Michael’s Church in Holbrook, Iowa. She worked in the kitchen at Mercy Hospital and for Linn-Mar sports uniforms laundry. Laurine loved her coffee ladies group. She will be remembered for being so thoughtful, always sending cards to everyone, forever taking pictures, having her home be open to anyone, and her love of wearing hats. Laurine will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Laurine is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 61 years, Robert “Bob” of Marion, Iowa; children, Laurie (Kevin) Powrie of Shellsburg, Iowa, Jim (Dawn) Sueppel of Marion, Iowa, Mary Beth Sueppel Hewitt of Bellevue, Nebraska, and Joy (Brent) Hedding of Hudson, Wisconsin; thirteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, with one on the way; siblings, Gerry (Marilyn) Gaffey of Iowa City, Iowa, Harold (Cindi) Gaffey of Coralville, Iowa, Ed (Karen) Gaffey of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Theresa (Jerry) Stevens of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and special Uncle John (Helen) Gaffey of Williamsburg, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and countless good friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles Gaffey; and sister, Mary Kathryn Roth.

A special thanks to the staff at The Views of Marion for their care of Laurine, especially, Bre, Brandon, and Jenny.

Memorials in Laurine’s memory may be directed to Hospice of Mercy or St. Matthew Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
