Laurence “L.D.” Benion, 68, of Center Point, Iowa, died Thursday, November 15, 2007, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, from complications of multiple myeloma. There will be no services. The family will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday, November 17, 2007, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Center Point.
Survivors include his children, R.D. (Mary) Benion of Palo, Dawn (Stephen) Plym of West Des Moines, Mendee (Jim) Dixon of Waukon and Heather Benion and fiancé Shane Mueller of Marion; five grandchildren, Jami, Joel, Kramer, Noah and Cali; sister, Andi (George) Castek of Center Point; nieces, Kim and Kelli and their families; four grand dogs, Casi, Piper, Kody and Sam; and many other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
L.D. was born April 30, 1939, in Walker, Iowa, the son of Laurence and Ivadell (Stanford) Benion. He was self-employed as a painter, owner of Benion Nursing Home in Center Point and Becker’s Shoe Store in Manchester.
L.D. enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing and being with his family and friends. He was a member of the Center Point Fire Department.
Instead of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in L.D.’s memory.
