Laura Jane Yount

Laura Jane Yount, 55, of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at University of Iowa Hospital following an extended illness. A celebration of Laura’s life will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at Fellowship Community Church, Palo, Iowa, starting at 11:00 – 3:00 p.m. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Per her wishes there will be no services or visitation.
Laura was born March 11, 1958, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of William Edward Yount Jr. and Jacqueline Redman Yount. She graduated from Kennedy High School in 1976 and attended Mount Mercy College.
Laura is survived by her mother, Jacqueline Yount; five siblings, William Yount III (Linda), Bradley Yount (Connie) and their daughters, Jaycel, Krizzalyn and Mia, Linda Bullene (Scott) and their daughters, Lindsey Evans (Robert) and Caitlin, James Brent Yount (Jill) and Lisa Bertelli (Mark); her great-niece Maddison Rose Evans; and Laura’s dog, Zeus. She was preceded in death by her father.
Laura had a special gift with children. She loved children and they loved her in return. She had an amazing ability to communicate with troubled teens and gained their respect and trust working in social services for 33 years. Laura will be remembered for her quick wit and ability to make people laugh. She took much enjoyment of history, reading, furniture refinishing, friends, parties, cross word puzzles, dinning out and her beloved nieces, Lindsey, Caitlin and great niece, Maddison Evans.
Special thanks to the staff of St. Luke’s Hospital and the University of Iowa Hospital for the care and compassion shown to Laura and her family during her illness.
