Laura L. Stoneking, 61, a resident of Hallmark Care Center in Mt. Vernon, formerly of Springville, died Sunday, February 19, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, following a long illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 23, 2006, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by Rev. Del Bear. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial: Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Laura is survived by her brother, David (Linda J.) Stoneking; her twin sister, Linda L. Stoneking of Springville; and a half-sister, Claudia Colson of Boise, Idaho. In addition she is survived by her aunt, Marian Sutliff of Cedar Rapids; and two foster sisters, Linda Shakespeare of Cedar Rapids and Shelly Day of Silver City, New Mexico; and a very special friend, Kim Ingwersen of Lake Park, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Helen Sutliff Stoneking; a brother, Paul; sister, Sharlene; and two foster brothers, Rob and Tim Barnett.
Laura was born at St. Luke?s Hospital on April 22, 1944. She graduated from Springville High School in 1962. She was employed at Rockwell Collins for twenty-seven years in the Packaging and Packing Department, first as a clerk, then as a supervisor.
Laura enjoyed her dogs, Angel and Rags, horseback riding, reading and writing, and traveling with friends. She then was afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis the last eighteen years of her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or to the Cedar Rapids Humane Society, in Laura?s memory.
