Laura R. Morris, 71, of Center Point, Iowa, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025, at the Hospice House in Hiawatha, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s, surrounded by loved ones. Laura was born July 23, 1953, as an only child to Col. Charles and Helen Miller in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. She graduated with the Class of 1972 from Lafayette High School in St. Louis, Missouri, and went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Laura was deeply involved in soccer, equestrian hunter-jumper competitions, and community theater as both a director and an actor.

On May 16, 1980, she married the love of her life, Delvin “Wayne” Morris in Marion, Iowa. She worked at the Department of Human Services for 36 years, before retiring. Laura enjoyed music, dancing, singing and being crafty. She was an avid animal enthusiast and enjoyed spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include her husband, Wayne; her son, Jason (Bridget) Morris of Urbana; daughter, Jamie Morris, stepson, Kurt (Susan) Morris, all of Center Point; brother-in-law, Edwin (Judy) Thompson of Quasqueton; sister-in-law, Rena (Harold) Sanders of LeClaire; sister-in-law, Delores Reed of LaPorte City, Iowa; brother-in-law, Chris Mayfield of Marion; brother-in-law, Irwin (Diane) Morris of Marion; sister-in-law, Lanora (Terry) Walker, McPherson, Kansas. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home in Center Point. A Celebration of Life will take place on June 28, 2025, at the Urbana Community Center, 102 Capitol Avenue, Urbana. There will be a private graveside service for family at Dunkard Cemetery in Midway, Iowa.
