Laura Louise Fernandez Baker, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 16, 2008. Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 1, 2008, at Lifeline Ministrie, 800 G Avenue N.W., Cedar Rapids, by Pastor Tim Pridgen. She requested no viewing.
Survivors include seven children, Deanna (Douglas) Ortberg, Robert (Nancy) Armstrong, Jr., Maria (Chuck) Downin, Paul Armstrong, Mark (Karla) Armstrong, Lora Armstrong and Lisa Armstrong; 23 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; six sisters; many nieces and nephews; and her pets, Casey, Sarah, Nova, Jill, Bjay and Big Guy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; step-father, Dan Van Valtenburg; four brothers; one sister; her grandson, Stephen Wharton; and five step-brothers.
Laura was born July 11, 1935, to David and Fanchon (Bedell) Fernandez in Iowa City, Iowa. She lived in the Cedar Rapids area all her life.
Laura loved to work around her home and yard, work jigsaw puzzles and dance. She especially enjoyed taking care of animals that came her way.
She will be greatly missed. Thank you Jesus for loving her so much. See you when we get there, mom. Love you always and forever.
