Larry K. Woellert, 62, of Manchester, Iowa, died Saturday morning, February 10, 2007, at his home in Manchester, from heart failure.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at First Lutheran Church in Manchester by Rev. Dr. Jean Rabary. Family will greet friends from 3-8 p.m. on Monday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Larry was born January 26, 1945 in Manchester, the son of Harold G. and Gail H. (Lehman) Woellert. He was raised on a farm between Strawberry Point and Dundee. Larry attended Dundee schools through ninth grade and graduated from West Delaware High School in 1963. He studied accounting at Gates Business College in Waterloo. Larry worked as an accountant for Sunray DX and Schroeder?s Cash Supply. On December 3, 1967, Larry was united in marriage to Joyce A. Wittenburg in Waverly. The couple settled in Manchester where Larry began working at the Manchester Press, until he retired in 2005. He then obtained his realtors license and worked for First State Realty. Larry was a correspondent for the Cedar Rapids Gazette, Dubuque Telegraph Herald and Dyersville Commercial during this time.
Larry was a member of First Lutheran Church, Lions Club, and former member of the Manchester Volunteer Fire Department. He was active in the newspaper industry and belonged to the Iowa Newspaper Association. He belonged to the Lucky 13 Stock Club and numerous civic organizations. Larry enjoyed playing cards, photography, golf, bowling, gardening, yard work, fishing and sports of all kinds. He collected golf balls, beer cans and coins. Larry especially loved playing with his grandson.
Larry is survived by his wife, Joyce Woellert of Manchester; two daughters, Jennifer Woellert of Burlington and Tiffany (Brad) Lott of Manchester; one grandson, Maddux Lott; his mother, Gail Woellert-Carpenter of Manchester; a brother, Lynn (Lynn) Woellert of Strawberry Point; and a sister, Kathy (Philip) Ganske of Haddonfield, NJ.
Larry was preceded in death by his father, Harold Woellert and step-father, Leland "Lee? Carpenter.
