Larry M. Slife, 70, of rural Central City, died Sunday, April 8, 2007, in his home following a long illness. Services: 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, 2007, at Faith Bible Church in Robins, by Rev. Steve Benton. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City. Friends may call from 5 - 8 p.m. Wednesday at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Mary; his children, Nancy (Grant) Rees of Center Point, Ronald (Sally) Slife and David (Jennifer) Slife, both of Toddville, Krista (Robert) Stewart of Runnells, Iowa, and Benjamin Slife of Central City; seventeen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Garry (Carol) Slife of Independence.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Larry was born June 4, 1936, in Central City, the son of Melvin and Dorothy (Byers) Slife. He graduated in 1954 from Central City High School and Iowa State University in 1958. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 - 1959. On July 5, 1958, he was united in marriage to Mary Virginia Cope at the Christian Missionary Alliance in Cedar Rapids. Larry was a vocational agriculture teacher and taught at Bloomfield, Alburnett and Monticello schools. He farmed from 1962 - 1997 near Troy Mills and worked as a feed salesman for Moormans Feed and later worked for Pioneer Research as a research technician in Marion.
Larry was a member of the Alburnett Lions Club, Farm Bureau and Faith Bible Church.
A memorial fund has been established for the missions program at Faith Bible Church in Robins, in memory of Larry.
