Larry D. Koering, 69, of 2637 Fruitland Blvd. S.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Monday, April 2, 2007, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Christ Church Presbyterian, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Ron Lewis. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m., today at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, and at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Doris; and his children from a previous marriage, Stephen Dean (Laurie) Koering of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Kimberly Kay (Doug) Wilson of Mt. Auburn, Iowa and David Alan (Laura) Koering of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren, Lisa Marie and Charles Ainsworth, Amy Jo Schnieders ( Nathan Sickels) of Cedar Rapids, Jeremy Brenton Koering of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Ashley Faye Koering, Jennifer Lee Koering and Benjamin David Koering all of Cedar Rapids; sisters, Virjean Countryman of Bella Vista, Arkansas and Marcia Koering of Cedar Rapids; and his first best friend, Larry (Sharon) Easler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Florence Koering; his wife?s parents, Jake and Darlene Hiner; and great grandson, Tyler William Ainsworth.
Larry was born June 3, 1937, in Cedar County, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Florence (Ebert) Koering. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1958. Larry was a long time resident of Cedar Rapids. On November 24, 1971, he married Doris Jean Hiner in Springville. He worked in construction as a union finish carpenter and cabinet maker.
He was a member for almost 50 years of the Christ Church Presbyterian where he was an active choir member, an elder and deacon and served on the building committee. He enjoyed baseball, football, hunting and fishing. He was an accomplished artist-working in oils. He developed an appreciation for golf later in life.
Instead of flowers, the family requests memorials in Larry?s memory be made to the Christ Church Presbyterian Elevator Fund, 2000 1st Avenue N.W., Cedar Rapids, Iowa 52405.
