Larry Smith Grant, 60, of 273 22nd Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, passed away, Friday, June 1, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids, following a long battle with cancer. Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at Noelridge Park Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Richard Marsceau. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2007, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Louise; a sister, Virginia Grant of Cedar Rapids; two nieces, Denise (Guy) Tillett of Marion and Diane (Tod) Glo of Vinton; a nephew, Mark (Patricia) Grant of Martelle; an aunt, Margaret Bonecutter of Strawberry Point; and his mother-in-law, Blanche Henkel of Vinton.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Larry was born August 11, 1946, the son of Robert and Alice (Ryan) Grant, in Manchester, Iowa. A 1966 West Delaware Community High School graduate, he attended a trade school in Arkansas and then began working in the maintenance department of Coe College in March 1967. Larry continued there for 40 years. His pride and joy was maintaining the Coe Swimming Pool. On December 6, 1968, Larry was united in marriage to Louise Henkel in Vinton, Iowa. He was a member of the Noelridge Park Church, where he was an usher. Larry enjoyed being a ham radio operator and volunteering communications for numerous events.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Larry.
