Larry Dean Garland, 74, of 220 Cambridge Dr. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Friday, October 9, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer. Services: 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 15, 2009 at King of King’s Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids, by Rev. Mark Halvorson. The family will greet friends from 4 ?" 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 16, 2009, at North Lawn Cemetery, Iowa Falls, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, E. Jaye of Marion; his son, Loran (Andrea) Garland, of Cedar Rapids; his daughter, Tracy (fiancé Thomas Wyckoff) Garland, of Cedar Rapids; and 3 grandchildren, Jackson, Wesner, and Mari Lissa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Larry was born April 10, 1935, the son of Walter and Leila (Neimeyer) Garland, in Readlyn, Iowa. He graduated from Iowa Falls High School and Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls. Larry married E. Jaye Erlanson on April 21, 1963, in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He completed the Iowa Electric Lineman’s Apprenticeship and was employed there for 38 years, retiring in 1987. He then served as an independent consultant for Iowa Electric until 1989. Larry was a charter member of King of King’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Larry’s memory.
