Larry Lee Essmann, 64, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Iowa City. Memorial Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, July, 25, 2013, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with military honors. The family will receive friends after Noon on Thursday.
Survivors include his spouse, Ronnie; his children, Adrienne Essmann, Blencoe, Iowa, and Jebediah Essmann, Cedar Rapids; grandson, Ravi Essmann; father, Charles Essmann, Cedar Falls, Iowa; brother, Charles (Trudy) Essmann, II, Denver, Iowa; the children’s mother, Bonny Hall, Blencoe, Iowa; and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Maxine Hughes.
Larry was born September 8, 1948, the son of Charles and Maxine (Hughes) Essmann, in Waterloo, Iowa. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. For over 25 years, Larry was an officer for the Bremer County Sheriff Department and then the Waverly Police Department. In February, 2006, he married Ronnie Schoenhut.
A memorial fund has been established in memory of Larry.
