Lawrence “Larry” Donner, 81, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully, Monday, November 6, 2023, at the Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa, after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Visitation: 4 – 7 p.m. November 17, 2023, at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood, Cedar Rapids. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. November 18, 2023, Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Larry's family asks that you dress casual in your favorite sports attire.
Larry was born September 7, 1942, in Osage, Iowa, the son of Leland and Gertrude (Brown) Donner and the family moved to Cedar Rapids when he was 3 years old. He graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1960 and attended Loras College. On November 6, 1971, Larry was united in marriage to Janice Urban in Cedar Rapids. He worked for Link Belt Speeder (FMC) and Rockwell Collins before retiring in 2002. Larry was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Cedar Rapids Bowling Association.
Larry enjoyed fishing, fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball, bowling, and camping. He was an honorable and distinguished member of the family NIRR (Noble Island River Runners). Larry liked cooking and making homemade pizzas. He loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and the Chicago Bears. He was dedicated to taking care of the lawn, affectionately known as “Wrigley Field”. Above all, Larry loved his family and was a loyal friend. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Janice Donner; children, Chris (Wendy) Donner of Vergennes, Vermont, Matt Donner, and Joel (Sarah) Donner of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Kaylee (AJ) Green, Bryce, Chaise, Peighton, and Skylar; and sister, Jean Buehner of Cedar Rapids.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Leland and Gertrude Donner and brother-in-law, Jack Buehner.
