Larry Gene “Buck” Mitchell, 67, of Marion, died Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at his home. Celebration of Life: 1-5 p.m. Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion. Burial: at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; three children, Julie Kienol of Mallard, Scott (Angela) Mitchell of Ft. Riley, KS, and Kristin (Jeremy) Anderson of Cedar Rapids; 7 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; step-mother, Pearl; siblings, Pam (Dan) Schmitz of LaPorte, Roseann (Mike) Spooner of Waterloo, Nancy Mitchell of Jesup; step-siblings, Lee (Linda) Rops of Florida, Paul (Janet) Rops of Wisconsin, and Karen Roberts of Bedford; and a half-brother, Gary Mitchell of Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother; brother, Charlie; granddaughter, Jordan; and a brother-in-law, John Roberts.
Larry was born April 17, 1944, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Donald and Ione (Ritchie) Mitchell. He graduated from Waterloo East High School. Larry served in the United States Navy from 1963-1967. He married Carol Muller on February 23, 1968, in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Larry was very passionate about his Iowa Hawkeyes, NASCAR, and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
