LaDonna Jean Carroll, known to many as “Jean” or “Jeannie”, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at West Ridge Care Center, Cedar Rapids, after a short illness.
Private family inurnment will be held at Linwood Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids.
LaDonna was born March 18, 1938, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the daughter of Almond and Nellie (Christopherson) Fields. She attended school in Cedar Rapids and married Melvin Kesselring in 1955. They later divorced. She married Patrick Carroll on October 21, 1997 in Las Vegas, Nevada. LaDonna worked for many years at Turner Microphone in Cedar Rapids and then at Oak Hill Manufacturing from where she retired.
In her retirement, LaDonna enjoyed visiting the casinos with her husband, Patrick, and her sister-in-law, Mary, and with many of her friends. She loved music and dancing. LaDonna was an independent and hard working woman who will be remembered for her sassy spirit.
LaDonna is survived by her children, Kevin Kesselring, Alberta (Bill) McMahon and Sherry McDonald, all of Cedar Rapids. She is also survived by her siblings, Joyce Lefebure and Jeff (Willie) Fields of Cedar Rapids, and Julie (Jim) Rollyson of Pekin, Illinois, as well as sisters-in-law, Dorothy Fields, Mary Decker, Ruth Niemeier, and Patty Carroll. Also left to remember her are her special niece, Linda Von Ahsen, several grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her special friend, Holly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick Carroll; infant son, Kelvin; her brothers John Fields and Melvin Christopherson; her parents, Roy and Nellie Fields; her sisters-in-law, Jean Carroll and Carol Meyer; and brother-in-law, Mike Carroll.
The family would like to thank Dr. Clete Younger and the staff at West Ridge Care Center, especially Wendy, John, Mary, and Ruth Ann, for caring so well for LaDonna during this past six months of her illness.
