LaDell Kensinger, 80, of 975 17th Street, died Saturday, August 6, 2005, in her home from complications of cancer. Memorial Services: 11:00 a.m.Wednesday, August 10, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church in Marion, by the Rev. Howard Chapman. Private family inurnment will be held at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Marion.

Surviving are her children; Lorinda "Lori? Strasburger of Marion and Don G. "Chip? (Cathy) Kensinger, Jr. of Marion; two brothers, Lt. Col. (ret.) Kenneth (Isa) Nicholson of Lakewood, Washington, and Dr. C.M. (Maxine) Nicholson of Mt. Home, Idaho; and a sister, Patricia (Dennis) Berry of Walnut Creek, California.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Ann Strasburger MacKenzie of Lone Tree, Robert (Erin) Strasburger of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Justin (Katie) Kensinger of Dubuque, Jesse (Brooke) Kensinger of Chicago and Royce Kensinger of Marion; great-grandchildren, Jacob MacKenzie, Nathan and Lauren Strasburger; a greatly anticipated great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Beth" Brown of Marengo; and her special long-time friend and companion Mel Meggers of Marion. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Don, and a sister, Carmel Walker.

LaDell was born July 12, 1925, in Estherville, to M.J. and Ora (Minor) Nicholson. She graduated from Marion High School and trained in hair styling and cosmetology at Capitol Beauty College in Omaha. She married Don G. Kensinger on February 19, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana. He died in 1988. Don and LaDell were owners of Kensinger Realtors and Appraisers in Marion for many years. She was active in many business and civic organizations. Since 1986, she was a Kirkwood adult literacy tutor. LaDell was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Marion since 1947, a member of the Tourist Club, the Red Hat Society, and an honorary lifetime member of the Cedar Rapids Area Association of Realtors.

LaDell enjoyed traveling, music, oil and water color painting, reading, and especially treasured time with her beloved family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Marion, Hospice of Mercy in Cedar Rapids, or a memorial established in her name.
