Kyle Lynn Smart, 23, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at his home in Marion from complications of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The family will greet friends on Sunday, August 30, 2015 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. Celebration of Life: 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2015 at the funeral home by Rev. John Albertson. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion.
Kyle is survived by his parents, Joel and Teresa Smart of Marion; his brother, Dustin Smart of Cedar Rapids; his grandmother, Virginia Smart of Marion; his canine companion and service dog, Carter; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas and Arlyne Williams; and his grandfathers, Norman Smart and William Young.
Kyle was born October 15, 1991 to Joel and Teresa (Young) Smart in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Linn-Mar High School and Kirkwood Community College, where he studied CAD and mechanical engineering. Kyle was a mentor for the Linn-Mar Robotics Team, an ambassador for the local MDA, and was a member of the Cedar Rapids Sky Hawks. Kyle was a huge fan of football, especially the Green Bay Packers. He will be remembered for his love of flying remote-controlled air planes.
