Kyle Bentley Hertzler, 42, of Marion, formerly of Lisbon, died Thursday, March 28, 2013. Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, at New Covenant Bible Church, 3090 N. Center Point Rd., Cedar Rapids, 52411, by Pastor Tye Male. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; daughter, Bethany; parents, Ron and Kay Hertzler of Lisbon; mother-in-law, Marlene Wendell of Kearney, Nebraska; brother, Steve (Julie) Hertzler of Worthington, Ohio; grandmother, Maxine (Ken) Stover of Lime Springs; brother-in-law, David Wendell of Marion; uncle, Al (Kristy) Bentley of Houston, Texas; aunt, Diane (Ron) Weldin of Hampton; nieces, Annie and Sarah Hertzler; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Harry and Geraldine Hertzler; grandfather, Harold Bentley; uncle, Ken Bentley; and father-in-law, Ken Wendell.
Kyle was born December 30, 1970, the son of Ronald and Kay (Bentley) Hertzler in Cedar Rapids. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1989 and Wartburg College in 1993. Kyle received his masters degree from Bellevue University. On August 10, 1996, he married Sharon Wendell in Central City. Kyle was a long time employee of Linn County and had most recently worked as a Disaster Project Specialist for the State of Iowa. He was a coordinator for flood relief and the assistance of the Linn County flood victims. He had the heart of a volunteer who devoted countless hours and many sleepless nights to helping others.
Kyle loved God, his family and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, and brother. His greatest joy was his daughter, Bethany.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Kyle’s memory.
