Kirk Rockne Shearer
April 3, 1946 — August 22, 2015
Kirk Rockne Shearer, 69, of Elkader, went to heaven Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015 at Hospice of Mercy in Hiawatha. Celebration of Life: 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Palisades-Kepler Park in Mount Vernon in the grassy area down by the beach. Burial will take place at a later date. Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion.
He is survived by his children, Ki (Erin) Shearer, Kristian (Brodie) Shearer; one grandson, Liam Shearer; sister Jacqueline (Bill) Paeth; brother, Kim (Dixie) Shearer; and many nieces and nephews.
Kirk was preceded in death and well received by his mother and father Evelyn and Joseph Shearer and his sister Linda Jones.
Kirk was a strong Christian man who loved and cared greatly for his family. He was passionate about cultivating and growing bonsai, and teaching others about the art form. He believed in being a good steward of the blessings God had given him and saw His beauty in everything.
After serving honorably in the United States Navy, Kirk spent his 35 year career traveling the world with Universal Engineering. In retirement he started a small shop, The Forest Connection, in McGregor, Iowa. After which, he remained active in the bonsai community, was a wood worker, and an artist.
