Kevin Lee Opheim, 50, of 1319 Eighth St. NW, Cedar Rapids, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 12, 2006, in St. Luke?s Hospital, Cedar Rapids, following a sudden illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 16, 2006, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Steve Benton. The family will greet friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2006, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; his father, Gordon(Barb)Opheim of Harpers Ferry; his children, Tyrone (Gretchen) Brumwell, Matt (Mary) Obiedzinski and Kassy Opheim, all of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren, Emily, Nicole, Anthony and Elizabeth; a sister, Janelle (Ken) Miller of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, Dave Opheim of Houston, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Kevin was born July 15, 1956, the son of Gordon Opheim and Bernette (Zupke) Opheim in Waukon, Iowa. He graduated as valedictorian of his class from Jefferson High School. On May 16, 1981, Kevin was united in marriage to Patricia Thorington in Cedar Rapids. A member of the Faith Bible Church, he worked for PCI Group. Kevin loved to weld and do scroll work and also enjoyed vacations, going to movies and ballgames with his friends, and watching football.
