Kenneth M. Wendell, 68, of 1635 25th St. in Marion, died Thursday, May 19, 2011, at his home after a courageous battle with carcinoid cancer. Memorial Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2011, at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion by Rev. Dennis Johnson. Family will greet friends from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2011, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial: Prairie Home Cemetery, Holdrege, NE, at a later date.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marlene; children, David Wendell and Sharon (Kyle) Hertzler, both of Marion; a granddaughter, Bethany Hertzler; and his dog, Mocha.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Ken was born September 5, 1942, in Holdrege, Nebraska, the son of Verle and Elvera (Anderson) Wendell. He graduated from Minden Nebraska High School in 1960. He was a graduate of Nebraska Technical School in Milford, Nebraska in 1962. On December 7, 1963, he was united to Marlene Joy Erickson in Holdrege. Ken worked as an electronics tech at Rockwell for 39 years, retiring in 2001. Ken was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion.
