Kenneth D. Swanson, 73, of Paradise-Magalia, California, formerly of Manchester, died Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at Enloe Medical Center in Chico, California from kidney failure.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2006 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Manchester. Family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
Kenneth was born July 11, 1933 near Manchester, the son of Harry and Elna L. (Anderson) Swanson. He grew up on a farm five miles southwest of Manchester and attended Manchester High School. Kenneth married Marlene Hawker in 1955. The couple made their home in Lawton, Oklahoma while Ken was in the Army at Ft. Sill. Upon his discharge, they moved to La Mirada and Pico Rivera, California. The couple divorced in 1963. He worked for Ace Industries as a machinist. While in California, Ken enjoyed competition bowling and championship car racing.
Ken moved to Iowa where he worked as a machinist and continued his education. In January of 1964, Ken married Patricia Lucas. The couple had two daughters and resided in Cedar Rapids. Ken worked for Rockwell International as an Industrial Engineer, retiring in 1994. Following retirement, Ken and Pat moved to Manchester.
Ken moved back to California and remarried his first wife, Marlene Hawker Mays and made their home in Paradise-Magalia until his death. Ken suffered from kidney failure and its effects for many years.
Ken is survived by his wife, Marlene Mays-Swanson of Paradise, CA; two daughters, Pamela Schroeder of Rapid City, SD and Karen Ann (Paul) Pelletier of Manchester; three grandchildren, Bailey and Lane Schroeder and Noah Pelletier; a son-in-law, Noel Schroeder of Black Hawk, SD; three brothers, Bob (Elvetta) Swanson of Mission, TX, Duke (Velma) Swanson and Cliff (Ruth) Swanson, both of Manchester; two sisters, Jean (Frank) McCusker of Manchester and Lois (Richard) Morris of Cedar Rapids; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death his parents, Harry & Elna Swanson; and one sister, Betty Morgan.
