Kenneth V. Revers, 81, a resident of Heritage Nursing & Rehab Center, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died there Sunday, November 21, 2010. A Memorial Service was held Monday at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Mt. Clark Cemetery, Central City, at a later date.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; children, Bruce and Beth Revers of Mason, Michigan, Laurie Revers of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Brian and Suzanne Revers of Cedar Rapids and Lisa and Michael White of Eugene, Oregon; grandchildren, Marie (Brian) Goff, Benjamin Revers, Angela Revers, Andy Becker, Janaha (Mitch) Cook, Shiree Revers, Dawson Revers, Nyree, Kenzie and Sidney White; and one great grandchild, Sean Goff. Also surviving are his siblings, Thomas (Joann) Revers and Ronald (Nancy) Revers both of Omaha, Nebraska, Walter Revers of North Platte, Nebraska, Patricia Homsey and Loretta Vavra both of Omaha, Nebraska, Betty Mona of Des Moines, and Barbara Revers and Bernice Smith both of Omaha, Nebraska.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers-in-law, Ray Vavra, Sam Homsey, Frank Mona and Ted Smith.
Born July 21, 1929, in Omaha, Nebraska, Ken was the son of Thomas and Winfred (Wallace) Revers. He attended South Omaha High School. Ken served his country in the U.S. Army in Korea as part of the Japanese Occupational Force. After his discharge he returned to Nebraska working as a mechanic and at Terrazo Flooring. Later he moved to Cedar Rapids, where he worked on the Masonic Temple and met his wife, Marjorie Zumwalt. On July 31, 1955, they were united in marriage. Ken also served in the Iowa National Guard from July 1974 to May 1979. For 10 years he worked for Square D and then FMC until the plant closed. He received his associate’s degree at Kirkwood Community College in horticulture and briefly worked for Pierson’s Florists. He retired from Rockwell Goss.
Ken was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and camping. Ken built his family home where he and Marjorie raised their four children.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or Hospice Compassus.
