Kenneth Ted Paul, 87, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids from a cerebral hemmorage. Visitation will be from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. Burial: Layfayette Cemetery, rural Alburnett, Iowa.
Ted is survived by six children, Karen (Ray) Frerick of Ankeny, Sandra Harms of North Liberty, Judith Schatzle of Cedar Rapids, Janene (Lonnie) Oliphant of Toddville, Kenneth (Jill) Paul of Marion, Evan (Trisha) Paul of Center Point. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Susan (David) Grebasch, Robert Harms, Jared Schatzle, Summer (Terry) Thompson, Daniel Oliphant, Jenna Oliphant, Andrew (Delta) Paul, Nicholas, Mitchell, Mark, Amber and Heather Paul; step-grandchildren, Bryan Hines and Alyssa Davis; great-grandchildren are Catelyne, Abagail, and Alec Oliphant, Lucian and Chance Thompson, Jerry Grebasch, and Raymond and Emerson Paul.
Also surviving are his sisters, Kathleen DeSotel of Central City, Alberta (Eddie) Begley of Marion; and his brother, Everett (Ann) Paul of Lawrenceville, Georgia.
Kenneth was born August 8, 1926, to Ernest and Ada (Wells) Paul in Center Point. He married Norma Jene Fare September 10, 1944. They were married for 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Ada Paul; his wife, Norma Jene Paul; brothers, Robert, Gerald, Darwin, Ernie, infants Merle and Melvin; half-brother, Roger; brother-in-law, Robert DeSotel; sister-in-law, Albia Paul; and son-in-law, Edwin Harms.
Ted was a 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. His love of farming began in 1948 and was never ending. Ted treasured his John Deere Tractors and his Mustangs. He also worked for 35 years at Iowa Manufacturing in Cedar Rapids. He then was employed by the Cedar Rapids Gazette and later ran a small freight route business before retiring. Ted’s two loves were his family and his farm.
