Kenneth R. Nye, Sr., 88, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, in St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 2:30 p.m., today, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Bill Harnish. Visitation: 1 to 2:30 p.m., today, at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors by Marion American Legion Post #298.
Survivors include his children, Jackie (Ron) Tyne of Marion, Mary (Jeff) Hayes of Moravia and Kenn (Judy) Nye, Jr. of Cedar Rapids; ten grandchildren; and many great and great-great grandchildren.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine; daughter, Bobi Hartkemeyer; and ten brothers and sisters.
Born December 11, 1920, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kenneth was the son of Frank and Emma (Kennedy) Nye. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On October 6, 1940, in Brooklyn, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Debe. She died September 19, 1988. He was active in the auto body repair business for over 50 years.
Kenneth was a lifetime member of the American Legion Hanford Post #5, an active member of MotorIoway and an avid Cubs fan.
