Kenneth W. Nodurft, 77, of Manchester, died of cancer on Friday, March 11, 2005 at his home in Manchester.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 15 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester by Pastor Jill Mack. Friends may call from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday and one hour before services Tuesday at the funeral home. There will be a Fraternal Order of Eagles Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Manchester with military rites by Manchester American Legion Post #45.
Ken was born on August 1, 1927, the son of William C. and Anna (Schmidt) Nodurft in rural Strawberry Point. He attended school in Edgewood. On April 5, 1947, Ken was united in marriage to Vida Wengler in Hastings, Nebraska. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp. for two years and was honorably discharged in 1947. He then worked at a naval ammunition depot in Hastings until it closed in 1957. The couple moved to Manchester where Ken operated several gas stations for the next thirty-three years, retiring in 1993.
Ken was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He liked to play cards and watch the birds at his feeders. Ken especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Ken is survived by his wife, Vida Nodurft of Manchester; three children, Bruce (Marianne) Nodurft of Manchester, Shirley (Pat) Gillespie of Lake Park, IA and Lisa (Steve) Jones of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren; two sisters, Marian Skibbe and Irma Watson, both of Oelwein; and three brothers, William Nodurft of Cedar Rapids, Howard (JoAnn) Nodurft of Marion and Wayne (Mary) Nodurft of Orlando, FL.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, William & Anna Nodurft; four brothers, Robert, Harold, Dale and Lawrence Nodurft; and a sister, Helen Nodurft.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
