Kenneth Rodney McDaniel, 81, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, June 15, 2009, at home with his family beside him. Services: 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 19, 2009, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids by Chaplain Joe Kane. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Survivors include his son, James Lee McDaniel and wife Marlene of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Carol Marie McDanniel of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren, Stacey Stougard, Stephanie Stripling, Anna Star, Tina McDanniel, and Eddie McDanniel, all of Cedar Rapids, Tanya McDannald and Brad McDannald of North Liberty, Jamie McDannald and Jesse McDannald of Cedar Rapids; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; seven brothers; and seven sisters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura; his father, Andy McDaniel; and a son, Billie Joe McDannald.
Kenneth was born May 2, 1928, in Maradosia, Illinois. He enlisted into the U.S. Navy in 1946 when he was 17 years old. He was on a battleship and a submarine during the Korean War. He married Laura West in 1950. She preceded him in death.
Kenneth enjoyed gardening and his dogs, Taco and Buster.
A memorial fund has been established in Kenneth’s memory.
