Kenneth G. Martin, 74, of Central City, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, February 6, 2010, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Marion, with military honors provided by American Legion Wapsi Post # 421. The family will greet friends 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at the funeral home, with a Masonic Service beginning at 4 p.m. Private family inurnment to take place at a later date, Dunkard Cemetery, Toddville.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; children, Daniel L. (Pamala) Martin of Central City, and Kenneth G. Martin Jr. of Central City; grandchildren, Angela Martin of Chicago, IL, Adam Martin of Cedar Rapids, and Jessica Martin of Winter Springs, FL; siblings, Betty Goldsberry, John Martin, and Ed Martin, all of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, William Randall; and father and mother-in-law, Louis and Sue Akers.

Kenneth was born January 21, 1936, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Edward and Angeline (Windsor) Martin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Kenneth married Beverly Newman on April 3, 1955, at the First Lutheran Church, Cedar Rapids. He retired from Rockwell Collins as an Electrical Engineer. Kenneth was a member of the Level Masonic Lodge #284 AF & AM, and the American Legion Post Wapsi Post #421. Kenneth enjoyed playing poker with his poker club friends for over 40 years, and enjoyed trips to the casinos. He loved dogs, reading, and working outdoors. Kenneth also enjoyed taking cruises and trips, and especially liked sailing and scuba diving.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Kenneth’s name.
